Finn’s Big Adventure!

posted 8 Apr 2013, 04:32 by Belmont Images   [ updated 8 Apr 2013, 04:32 ]

Adventure
1st Belmont Joey Scout Finn will be undertaking an amazing adventure and will be helping many, many other children these holidays.

Finn will be taking part in the CIKA Coach Drive travelling by horse and coach from Port Fairy to Melbourne raising funds for Cancer In Kids @ The Royal Children’s Hospital.  Driving the coach will be Andrew and Christine Duyvestyn who are close family friends and ‘grandparents’ to Finn and his brothers.

The hope is that $50,000 will be raised to go towards a Leica microscope for the hospital to analyse solid tumours.

The journey will start on April 10 and travel through 12 towns along the way to arrive in Melbourne on the 20th April.  Fundraising events will occur along the way but donors can contribute via the website www.cikacoachdrive.com.au

It would be wonderful if donations could be made from the 1st Belmont Scout family towards what Finn and his grandparents aim to achieve.

With this in mind the Joey Scout section is setting a challenge to the Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers to organise a fundraising event at our first meetings for Term 2 as the coach drive draws to a close.  It could be bring a gold coin for supper or wear your uniform backwards and pay a fine…. anything the kids and leaders want to think up.  Stay tuned to find out what the Joey Scouts will be doing.

Have a wonderful time Finn – we can’t wait to hear all about it.

Update

We keep getting new kids on the waiting list as the 8 year olds go up to Cubs, as Ethan did. While Steph is away on Army Reserve duties the other three leaders are coping well – another example of why we have 4 leaders per section.

For those that don't know, Naomi Barnes as well as being our Leader in Charge of Joeys is the Barwon District Joeys Commissioner as well.  With a new Mob about to start at 1st Highton plus Torquay Joeys, she will have an increasing role here with possibly 4 mobs to co-ordinate.
